MICHAL MAKOVSKY 10 YEARS - AT ONE CLUB!!! - A Well Deserved Testimonial

Michal Makovsky is a rare breed of speedway rider as currently he is the only foreign rider competing in the UK who has only ridden for one team, the Berwick Bandits – and this is his Testimonial tenth season. The hard working testimonial committee have been working overtime for the last six months in order to get this big event off the ground with the best possible field available and it’s fair to say they have lost many night’s sleep in the process.

A successful Scottish night followed by a jammed-packed DVD / talk-in forum have preceded the big event which hits the track in a couple of weeks time where all of Michal’s special memorabilia merchandise can be bought. So after hundreds of phone conversations and some major headaches caused by the infernal unforeseen circumstances - the confirmed line up is (not in riding order):

Michal, Josef Franc, Adrian Rymel, Tomas Topinka, Kevin Doolan, James Grieves, Kenni Larsen, Ricky Ashworth, Paul Clews, Lee Complin, Carl Wilkinson, Jason Lyons, Ben Barker, Chris Harris, Olly Allen and Jason Doyle with reserves Paul Cooper and Jade Mudgway.  

The 16 riders will battle over the tried and trusted 20 heat format with the winner decided purely on the most points scored over 5 heats, if a tie on points then result decided on head to head run-offs. Former World Champion from California, Sam Ermolenko, will also be doing some demonstration laps, hopefully with another former-rider, although at present this is to be confirmed. Then following the main event the After Meeting party will drag the attendees over to the Black & Gold for a night to remember with Nitetalk providing the entertainment.

Tickets are priced at £5 for the after show party and are available from The Cornhill Village Shop, Taffys Time Machine in Marygate, Berwick, Andersons' Quality Butchers outlets and from the hard working Committee Members. They will also be on sale during the press and practice session at the track this Saturday, March 13th and also the week after when Newcastle visit in the Tyne/Tweed Trophy.

The committee are also looking to do Speedway Race Night in April, Bingo in May, Go Karting in June, A kid’s Afternoon summer fun barbeque with outdoor games and the like in July and in August a Sponsored Cycle ride (in conjunction with Motor Neurone Association).

The club’s Press and Practice session to which ALL MEMBERS OF THE PRESS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND.
At the free-to-the-public session, the 2010 Bandits will be introduced to the press at 5.30pm in the Black and Gold pub within Shielfield Park for a photo-call and interview interlude for radio, TV and newspapers to take full advantage. The action them moves to the track where the quad will take to the shale for the first time this season to grab as many laps practice before the visit of the Newcastle Diamonds on March 20th as usual – parade 6.50pm and heat one at 7.00pm.
