HEATHENS HELP FUNDBy Dudley Heathens Speedway ~ Wednesday 7th April 2010A website has been set up to seek financial assistance for the Dudley Heathens riders that the organisers believe could be adopted in principle by every National League club in the country.
The site is
www.heathenshelpfund.moonfruit.com and riders will be able to apply to the fund for assistance with the cost of machinery. A panel of members comprising ex-Heathen Alan Grahame, Andy Hale and co-ordinator Sophie Craven will process the riders' applications and payments will be made from the fund to the rider by way of a voucher which can be redeemed at Cov-Comp, the track spares van which is run by Geoff Collins.
Donations can be made via the site and will be kept in a fund which can be viewed at any time on-line. Already Lasertube -part of Barrett Steel Ltd who have assisted the US Dream Team tours - have made a contribution to get matters rolling.
The only costs that will come out of the fund, other than the rider sponsorship, will be the paypal charges and any running costs for the website but these will be minimal.
Commented Sophie: 'Speedway is a very expensive sport especially when you are just starting out. I want to stop riders from having to hang their leathers out because the sport is costing too much for them to afford to keep going. I would like to put the idea in people's minds throughout the speedway community and see every NL team trying to do the same.'
The fund will be there to give a helping hand. Riders can make applications and these will be reviewed by the three administrators and several factors will be taken into consideration. These factors include the level of funding required, what it would be used for and how much money is currently in the fund. If the level of funding is considered too much to be met in full, a percentage of the application may be given.
Already the fund is ticking into life with cash or cheque also acceptable. Further details on that method of contribution via
