STARS UP AGAINST ODDS IN KOC SEMI FINAL By King's Lynn Speedway ~ Monday 26th July 2010 The King’s Lynn ‘Roger Warnes Transport’ Stars will continue the defence of the Knock Out Cup title on Wednesday night as they face the Edinburgh Monarch’s in the semi-final first leg.
The Edinburgh Monarchs have been in scintillating form, winning 13 out of their 14 league matches this season (their only loss was at home to King’s Lynn) but the Stars fortunes have turned around since that win, losing their last four matches and their top rider, Kevin Doolan in the process. Team Manager Rob Lyon, insists the fans should give the team at least one more chance to prove themselves ‘Yes we have been having a tough time, and I know that the team isn’t performing like it should do but the guys know how important this match is and have all pledged to give it 110%. So let’s get behind them and give them the support they deserve, then if they don’t come up with the goods I will unfortunately be forced to make changes!’ said team manager, Rob Lyon.
The Stars have booked home track favourite Chris Schramm as a replacement for Kevin Doolan and he seems keen to help get the Stars get to the KOC Final ‘I helped the team win the title last season so it is just as important for me to help the team retain it, Rob has explained they are going through a rough time but I want to help them get over that, even if it is only for this match. The team has a good record up at Edinburgh so I see no reason why the Stars can’t get through if they were to get an 8 to 10 point lead at home on Wednesday, in my eyes it is all to play for!’
King’s Lynn are not the only team with injury worries though, Edinburghs in form Finnish rider, Kalle Katijisto is doubtful for Wednesday after bruising his wrist, if he is absent they will be able to use a guest at reserve with an average of up to 6.89. King’s Lynn will also be without Rob Lyon who will be away on World Cup duty with Team GB, in his abscence Young Stars team manager, Dale Allitt, and Buster Chapman will take over his role, but before his departure Rob Lyon shuffled the team line up about with Tomas Topinka moving to number 3 and Joe Haines to number 5.
