POOLE SPEEDWAY JOINS COOKERY ROADSHOW By Poole Speedway ~ Monday 26th July 2010 For some innovative ideas of what to do with your leftover food why not visit the Love Food Hate Waste cookery road shows being held in Poole this summer, an event being endorsed by Poole Speedway. Whilst a total of six road shows will be held across the borough the Poole Castle Cover Pirates will be showing off their culinary skill on Thursday August 12th from 11am in the High Street, as they 'cook-off' against one another. Celebrity chef Richard Fox will demonstrate how to transform leftover food which may have ended up in the bin, into appetising meals, about a third of the food we buy ends up in the bin and this waste can cause many environmental problems if it ends up in landfill. Cllr Don Collier, Cabinet Portfolio Holder for the Environment, Borough of Poole said, "This is an excellent opportunity for people to see and take part in a really interesting, hands-on cookery demonstration. Reducing waste, and particularly food waste, is important to reduce the amount of biodegradable waste sent to landfill. So these cookery roadshows are great for people to learn how to make meals from leftovers and reduce the amount of waste put in their black bins." Poole chief (who will turn chef) Matt Ford, added his endorsement to the cookery shows saying "We are delighted to show our support for such a worthwhile campaign and we are looking to have some fun and team rivalry on August 12th and hopefully even learn a thing or two about what to do to avoid excessive food waste". The full calendar of Cookery shows is - Friday 30 July - Poole Park; Saturday 31 July - High Street; Thursday 12th August - High Street; Friday 13th August - Poole Park; Friday 3rd September - The Continental Market, Poole Quay Saturday 4th September - The Continental Market, Poole Quay The Mayor of Poole, Cllr Chris Bulteel will 'cook-off' against the Deputy Mayor, Cllr The Reverand Charles Meachin at the final event of the summer, Saturday 4th September
