THERE'S NO BEATING BRUNDLE

James Brundle romped to his second successive NDL maximum of his brief spell with the Bournemouth Castle Cover Wessex Marine Buccaneers as the Dorset side moved to within one point of a qualifying position for the end of season play-offs. The Buccaneers 55-40 victory over Plymouth was spearheaded by a four ride maximum from Brundle who has now won all 9 league rides he has taken for the Bournemouth club. The 23 year old Norfolk born rider has only been beaten by one opponent since he linked up with the Buccaneers at the start of the month said of the whole team performance "We just have to keep the ball rolling now, we have hit a run of form and want to keep it going".

His opening 5-1 with Daniel Halsey saw the home side get off to the best possible start. the Buccaneers quickly building up a cushion of points over the Devils who had to wait until the 14th heat of the night before they could boast a heat advantage of their own. Reserve John Resch was the only rider not to register a win in his own right but the youngster can feel justifiably proud with his performance, weighing in with a solid paid 9 whilst Dan Halsey, who suffered a harsh disqualification in heat 6, and Mark Baseby were both paid for double figure returns. Kyle Howarth's single race win (heat 5) was a crucial one as it came at the expense of double-point seeking Nicki Glanz. With Karl Mason backing up in third place it meant that the visitors were unable to eat into the 10 point deficit.

That margin was maintained for a further two heats before Dan Halsey and Aaron Baseby clocked up a 4-2 advantage in heat 8. But the Devils weren't tempted to use their second tactical option straight away and conceded two big 5-1's in the space of the following five heats including a Brundle/Halsey maximum score over previously unbeaten Seemond Stephens in heat 10 and another Brundle inspired top score, this time with Mark Baseby in tow in heat 13.

With the match beyond them, trailing by 20 points, Plymouth used Seemond Stephens as a tactical in heat 14 and he took the victory despite the chasing efforts of John Resch in second place, but with Kyle Howarth unable to prise an opening on Jamie Pickard in meant that the Devils could at least return to the St Boniface Arena in the knowledge that they had claimed one heat advantage over the Buccaneers.

• Kyle Howarth and John Resch both compete in the Under 18 Championship at Somerset on Friday night. Howarth will be keen to go one better than last season when he lost to Jerran Hart (a Bournemouth rider at the time) in the final.
