BASH CROWD RAISES £1500
By Tim Helm ~ Wednesday 12th August 2009
After an amazing three month journey putting together the Classic Speedway Bash at Sammy Millers Motorcycle Museum recently, the organisers were blessed with a good crowd on the day who all helped raise an incredible £1500 which has been donated to the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund to help injured riders. The main raffle prize was a Leigh Adams crash helmet signed by all the Grand Prix riders at Cardiff last month including Ole Olsen the GP race director and was won by Norma Duval ex wife of ex rider Reg Duval who regularly attends veteran speedway functions. In addition funds were boosted by website advertising and donation notably a large cheque from Sammy Miller together with the auction of various race jackets on the day including ten replica Poole Speedway jackets.

The highlight of the day for many of the local Poole supporters who turned out was the sight of Malcolm ‘Super Simmo’ Simmons aboard a bike which triggered many cameras instantly!

Tim Templeton and Tim Helm who put in many hours together to make the event a reality both commented “The day was a roaring success with £1500 raised which is a fantastic sum and even the weather held off for the day, everyone one is happy, that was the main aim to make it a good family day out as well as helping the Speedway Riders Benevolent Fund financially”.

Some great insights into their times in the saddle were relayed to the public from the stars of yesteryear while many lovingly restored bikes were on display. “We must thank everyone who turned up with their bike to display or ride together with all our stall holders, helpers and of course the public for flocking to the event, not forgetting Sammy Miller for the use of the Museum land, we really appreciate it all” commented the two Tim’s.
